Hello LinkedIn, it's been a minute! I usually only come on here when I have something passionate to share, and this time it is about an organisation I've been with for the past two years, GapyearSG. Taking a gap year after falling short of my A Levels goals wasn't an easy decision. My days were filled with work and projects, leaving little time for family. The relentless pursuit of making money to fulfil my dream of studying abroad consumed me. Looking back, I wish someone had reassured me that it's okay to take a gap year for financial reasons. I often felt isolated, witnessing others travel or take breaks while I toiled away. Despite the challenges, I can confidently say that my hard work, coupled with my parents' support, allowed me to fulfil my dream of studying abroad. Navigating life in a new country has had its share of challenges, but it's also provided a refreshing perspective and a renewed lease on life. The experience has fuelled my belief that sometimes, a change in environment is exactly what we need to grow. My journey has inspired me to contribute to a cause close to my heart—supporting individuals on unconventional paths. I want to convey the message that, no matter how different your journey may be, as long as you have a driving force, what you're doing is meaningful. With a background in both organising and attending events, I understand the power of creating impactful experiences. As such, I've stepped up to take the lead in organising this year's GapyearSG Conference 2024 - Navigating Post-Tertiary Pathways. From selecting engaging topics and speakers to coordinating with facilitators, I aim to ensure each session is thoughtfully crafted. Reflecting on my uncertainties during my own gap year, I recall how similar events played a crucial role in finding direction. It's this positive impact that I aspire to recreate for you in our upcoming conference. My hope is that this event serves as a reminder to slow down, offering you a glimpse of the myriad possibilities available when you listen to your heart and forge your own path. Looking forward to connecting with you all and sharing our unique journeys!
