Did you know that pigments don't actually add colour to polymers? š¶ They absorb light. Pigments are virtually insoluble colourants. They work by absorbing part of the incoming light and reflecting or scattering the rest. The colour you see is formed only in the eye of the viewer, from what's left over. Quite unbelievable, isn't it? Pigment preparations are complemented by fillers, which are added specifically to modify material and processing properties for example to improve flow behaviour, abrasion resistance or mechanical stability. Therefore, a masterbatch is far more than just a colour or a formulation. It is ā”ļø a carefully coordinated system ā”ļø of colourants, additives, fillers and carrier material, ā”ļø all of which work together to deliver the result you need in production. We open a tutorial in which you learn a bit more about pigments and our colourant knowhow. š Read the full "brief guide to colourants for anyone who colours polymers" https://lnkd.in/e77ZXb8t
