Between Rail and Motorway: Precision Work on Switzerland's N16 🏗️ In the canton of Bern, Walo Bertschinger AG is rebuilding two bridges on the N16 national road between Tavannes and Biel on behalf of the Swiss Federal Roads Office (ASTRA) — squeezed between a motorway, a railway line, and a river. Since July 2024, seven Liebherr cranes, including a 270 EC-B 12 and a 90 EC-B 6, have been handling the precise logistics of materials and components on site. A particular challenge: installing the falsework over a 22-metre span, in some sections without intermediate support. Since the site borders directly on the active railway line and motorway, the cranes' reach and operating methods had to be closely coordinated with SBB safety requirements.
