🎉 Today in History: October 28, 1886 Happy birthday 🎂to Lady Liberty🗽 a towering symbol of freedom, friendship, and hope. On this day in 1886, the Statue of Liberty was officially unveiled in New York Harbor. A gift from France, the statue was proposed in 1865 by French abolitionist Édouard de Laboulaye to honor the centennial of American independence and the enduring alliance between the two nations. Sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi brought the vision to life, with Gustave Eiffel engineering the internal support structure. 🗽 Originally named Liberty Enlightening the World, the statue’s torch represents enlightenment, its seven spikes the seven seas and continents, and the tablet bears the date of American independence. Shipped in 350 pieces and reassembled on Bedloe’s Island (now Liberty Island), it quickly became a beacon for immigrants and a global emblem of liberty. 📜 In 1903, Emma Lazarus’s poem The New Colossus was added to the pedestal, forever linking Lady Liberty with the promise of welcome: "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…" 🚀 A proud moment in our own company’s history: In 1986, during the Statue of Liberty’s centennial celebration, National Elevator, now Liberty Elevator Corporation , was entrusted with installing the original elevators inside the monument itself. These lifts transport visitors upward through one of America’s most iconic symbols, embodying our commitment to elevation, innovation, and national pride. It wasn’t just a project. It was a legacy, lifting people within the very statue that lifts spirits around the world. #StatueOfLiberty #TodayInHistory #LibertyElevator #ElevatingLegacy #AmericanHistory #NYC #SymbolOfFreedom #EmmaLazarus #October28
