Experiential education is a fundamental part of learning here at Leysin American School. Recently, our Grade 11 Biology and ESS students headed into Leysin’s ecosystems to apply classroom concepts in a real-world setting, exploring alpine meadows and local streams through hands-on scientific fieldwork. Using stream surveys, meadow quadrats, indicator species, and plant identification techniques, students investigated biodiversity, water quality, and ecosystem health firsthand. Experiences like these help students move beyond theory, developing critical thinking, observation, collaboration, and scientific inquiry skills in an environment that brings learning to life. Our mountain setting is an active part of the educational experience, creating opportunities for students to engage directly with the natural world and deepen their understanding through exploration and experiential education!
