Another tumultuous day in No. 10, and more behind the scenes insights from our Managing Partner Simon Lewis. This morning Simon spoke with Nicky Campbell on BBC Radio 5, on the unprecedented departure of Britain's 6th PM in 10 years. Simon talked about the “perilous period” of politics we are all witnessing and the way it is harming how we are seen internationally. He emphasised that the job of PM being “the biggest in the country”, as Keir Starmer put it, might also make it an impossible one. He then spoke to Lara Spirit on Times Radio on the parallels with his experience working as the Director of Communications for Gordon Brown in No.10. He framed the Blair/Brown handover as an “interesting period of transition”. Simon pointed to the age of social media and its effects on the public’s perception of politicians. He said that social media enables “people's views to crystallise", whereas traditional media leaves leaders with “more time and space”. Simon said that “social media dominates the agenda”, making it “harder to set a narrative”. Please do follow us to keep up with our commentary and let us know your thoughts below.
