How do we ensure that innovation stays and grows within Europe? This was the central question during today’s visit of Members of the European Parliament Nela Riehl, Ton Diepeveen, Mohammed Chahim, Marit Maij and the delegation from Neth-ER (Netherlands house for Education and Research). It was a pleasure to welcome the delegation and share what makes Key Region Leiden unique: 7 municipalities and 3 interconnected innovation campuses that together form one powerful innovation ecosystem. Because innovation does not happen in silos. It happens when scientific excellence accross disciplines, entrepreneurship, talent and infrastructure strengthen each other. Together with collegueas from Leiden University, Leiden University Medical Center, Leiden Bio Science Park, Gemeente Leiden and many others, we discussed what Europe needs to strengthen its competitive position: ➡️ 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 Europe needs robust and long-term investment in ecosystems that already demonstrate the ability to convert science into economic and societal impact. ➡️ 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 Infrastructure, regulation and policy should remove barriers rather than create them. ➡️ 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧 Researchers and innovators should spend more time innovating and less time navigating bureaucracy. ➡️ 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬 Such as #quantumtechnology for Life Science & Health.
