MAJOR PUBLICATION ALERT We printed borosilicate glass without oven sintering for the first time. https://lnkd.in/gZbUZuFX Philipp Schadte and I developed the Laser-assisted Melt Printing (LAMP) process. You deposit a slurry of borosilicate particles and melt it with a high powder CO2 laser layer by layer for optically transparent glasses. The process proves very versatile and can alleviate powder-bed related issues like material restrictions or monomaterial only printing. What's more, we directly synthesized gold, silver and gold-silver nanoparticles DURING THE PRINTING process and could change their concentration via the laser power. This is a very important milestone in my career, as it is a process entirely dreamed, built, optimized and capitalized on from scratch. Looking forward to printing medically relevant ceramics like zirconia (dental implants) and hydroxylapatite (bone implants) with local functionalization.
