The closure of Southend-on-Sea’s historic Clifftown Theatre and Studios has come as a devastating shock to our local community and everyone associated with working for the University of Essex. 🎭🏛️ The Grade II listed Victorian landmark—originally an 1865 church—was beautifully revived in 2010 through a £5.5 million restoration by the University of Essex's East 15 Acting School. Losing such a vital cultural and educational hub so abruptly is a massive blow to our regional creative economy. I hope this iconic space does not sit empty for long. I think I speak for everyone by saying I hope that new opportunities arise quickly to revitalise, reopen, and put this incredible historic building back to excellent use as soon as possible
