The first sign a pipeline won't scale isn't missed deadlines. It's the workaround. A workaround is what happens when a process doesn't fit the work. Someone figures out a faster way, it becomes informal standard practice, and nobody documents it. Then that person leaves, or the project grows, and the workaround stops working. Sustainable pipelines don't survive on workarounds. They're built around the work, not around whoever happens to be on shift. If your team is running on workarounds right now, that's a signal worth taking seriously before scope increases.
