"AI will never be calm. And that's the point." The AI paradox - brilliantly framed by David Orban - presents us with a fracture: AI is perceived as useful individually and unsettling collectively. And while many seek to make AI invisible, I argue that proactive technologies shouldn't be. Some uncomfortable truths: - Adoption is social, not technical - As usual, it's not the best tech that wins, but the socially acceptable one, gateway to adoption - Narrative precedes product - If it doesn't work as a story, it won't work as technology - Demerzel isn't just a servant. We can't domesticate an alien intelligence without transforming our own.
