40 Moments with Bernhard Lederer | Anecdote 5   One of the defining characteristics of scientific thinking is that every claim should ultimately be supported by evidence.   Following the introduction of the Central Impulse Chronometer, Bernhard Lederer was frequently asked whether such an advanced escapement could genuinely deliver its expected chronometric performance in a wristwatch.   Rather than entering theoretical debates, he chose a different approach.   Each of the eight movements of the Central Impulse Chronometer Observatory Edition was submitted to four independent chronometric institutions: COSC, the Observatoire Chronométrique de Besançon, the Sternwarte Glashütte Observatory, and the Observatoire Chronométrique de Genève.
