On 25 June 2026, Law Council President Tania Wolff presented a statement to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers, during the 62nd session of the Human Rights Council. The statement, delivered on behalf of the Law Council, LAWASIA (The Law Association for Asia and the Pacific) and the International Bar Association's Human Rights Institute, welcomed the Special Rapporteur’s initiative to develop Principles for Judicial Appointments, and in particular, the emphasis on transparent, merit-based and accountable appointment processes as an essential safeguard of judicial independence and the rule of law.
