In "The Loudest Silence in the Room," Florin Lungu examines a social practice he has experienced in Nordic workplaces and coined "quiet resistance." In simple terms, it is the undercurrent of opposition during meetings masked by agreeable nods and murmurs of assent. Business is wrapped up with everyone on the same page - apparently. Rival opinions dissipate slyly amongst colleagues outside of the conference room and when the second meeting comes around, the tables have turned and progress has stalled. At face value, it doesn’t look like opposition. There’s no loud objections, violent head shaking or blatant displays of disapproval. It’s characterized by diplomatic remarks and polite gestures that require one to read between the lines. Though when it reads as though a consensus has been met, why would you? 👉 For a deep dive into quiet resistance, read Florin’s full story here: https://lnkd.in/exiN5pkD
