100 MW / 400 MWh for the German energy transition. Oops, we did it again. Quick summary on our next big thing in Germany. Earlier this week LichtBlick SE officially announced their next large scale energy storage project in Germany, a 100 MW / 400 MWh reported to be a €100m investment. The project will be build in Röhrsdorf, near Chemnitz, in the grid area of MITNETZ STROM. The battery will be in good hands, joining over 950 MW of assets, currently being managed by LichtBlick's parent company Eneco. What makes the project special? 🔋🔋🔋🔋 4 hour system This will be the largest 4 hour system build or operational in Germany to my knowledge. We are currently building a 50 MW / 200 MWh system for Iqony, but LichtBlick easily doubles this. There is some debate going on in Germany about the right system size for the German market, and LichtBlick clearly decided that big and long is the right way to go. 🏗️ Biggest Fluence Asset in Germany Exciting from a Fluence perspective, this will be the biggest asset that we have currently contracted of build in Germany by energy capacity (MWh). TransnetBW's 250 MW / 250 MWh grid booster has a higher power rating, but by capacity Lichtblick is our biggest yet. (I want to say, let's see for how long) ▪️ ◾ What is big, what is small? From the perspective of Germany, 400 MWh is big, and an important and visible step to the role of BESS for the German energy transition. From a global perspective 400 MWh is small. Our largest asset globally under construction is the 2.000 MWh system (grid-forming) Tomago battery in Australia. But no worries, the first GWh scale BESS assets will be announced in Germany soon, no doubt. 🤝 Pushing the energy transition together On a personal note, very happy, this deal is signed and communicated. We have been working with the LichtBlick team on policy topics in Germany for some time, and will launch something on policy soon as well. They have some of the smartest German market and batters policy brains (Johannes Alexander Müller, Philipp Barthel) and you just have to love, when you connect with a company not just on a project, but also on the joint mission. So congrats to everyone involved, getting this project to this stage, and good project execution to both teams. And happy weekend to everyone else!
