LUSRP Week 4 Professional Development Session featured an engaging and enriching program designed to strengthen students’ understanding of biomedical research and scientific innovation. We were honored to welcome Dr. Rudi H. Ettrich, President and CEO of Larkin University, distinguished scientist, and Professor in the College of Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Ettrich delivered an insightful presentation titled “Synergy Between Computational and Experimental Biology.” He highlighted how integrating computational approaches with experimental research can accelerate scientific discovery and advance biomedical innovation, emphasizing the growing importance of interdisciplinary strategies in modern science. Students also participated in an interactive Research Shark Tank Workshop led by Dr. Idelxy Perez, Associate Professor in the College of Biomedical Sciences. During this hands-on activity, students worked collaboratively in teams to address real-world scientific challenges, develop innovative research ideas, and propose creative solutions. The workshop encouraged participants to think critically, collaborate effectively, and transform observations into meaningful research concepts. Through this experience, students strengthened essential skills in teamwork, problem-solving, leadership, creativity, and scientific communication while gaining valuable insight into the research process and innovation. We sincerely thank Dr. Ettrich and Dr. Perez for sharing their expertise and inspiring LUSRP students to grow as future researchers, innovators, and leaders in science.
