Everyone says they’re “governing AI.” 📝 Committees formed. Policies approved. Principles published. But ask one question: “Which AI systems are we actually using today?” Silence. 🤐 That’s the real gap. Most organizations govern intent, not reality. AI is already screening candidates, forecasting budgets, flagging fraud, and optimizing operations, often without a complete inventory, live monitoring, or clear escalation when things go wrong. Policies don’t detect bias. Committees don’t catch model drift. Dashboards don’t stop bad decisions unless someone is accountable. With regulation tightening and AI moving into production, governance that can’t explain what’s running, where, and with what impact isn’t governance. It’s reassurance. The organizations that will succeed aren’t the ones with the best principles. They’re the ones that can confidently answer: What AI do we use, and what happens when it fails? 📌 Article reference: “The 70/14 Paradox: Why AI Governance Fails in Practice” by Viren Lall (ChangeSchool).
