The first piece of our new series, ‘Collectivisms,’ is now on our website. ‘Collectivisms’ will feature essays by David Rubin, each discussing a topic that encapsulates the interests, commitments, and ethics that guide our practice. Our first piece, “Collectivism: Empathy as a Design Tool,” highlights the invaluable role that empathy plays throughout our work and design process. David discusses how he seeks to challenge the traditional notion of the ‘starchitect,’ and rather than standing ahead of his clients, he stands alongside them. As David writes, “when their challenges become shared challenges, the work opens up.
