Congratulations to Paul Jebb who has been appointed as a professor of practice at the University of Cumbria. Paul, Associate Chief Nurse for Patient Experience, Engagement and Safeguarding, will conduct his work in this new role alongside his current one at LSCft. Paul will work with staff and students at the university to enhance the curriculum, experience and environment, ensuring people’s voices are heard in health care professionals’ education. Activities carried out by professors of practice include: • providing students and staff with a deeper understanding of practice from a strategic perspective through to more operational aspects, through masterclasses, tutorials, research projects, mentorship or lectures; • providing public and stakeholder masterclasses or lectures to raise awareness and understanding of key topics, issues and policy areas, to stimulate debate and ideas and to reinforce the relevance, role and potential of the university; • providing strategic advice to academic leaders to support their development, knowledge base, externality and plans; • working directly with students to develop their confidence and showcase their talent; • promoting the integration of academic scholarship with practical experience and helping to bridge the gap that can exist between academia, research, and industry; • acting as a role model to staff and students and being an ambassador of the university. Well done Paul, we look forward to hearing how you get on. 💙
