This week we are thinking about the lives lost, the countless tragedies that go unreported and how painfully slow and limited justice truly is for garment workers. We are thinking about the importance of journalism (thank you Rob Hastings) to keep shining a torch on abuse. We are thinking about the strength of garment workers standing up, giving testimony, carrying on despite it all. As our Dominique M. said: 'While it’s a very welcome decision it’s heartbreaking to know that there is still no accountability for fashion companies like Figs and Under Armour and indeed like the many UK High Street and online retailers that stock these brands. Migrant workers in Jordan are being denied their right to freedom of association. Workers in Jordan are being ignored by the fashion industry. It is deeply saddening to see continued self-promotion by fashion companies of their commitment to human rights and sustainability all the while continuing to exploit workers, ignoring signs of exploitation and failing to address the root causes of this endemic exploitation. The UK desperately needs mandatory human rights and environment due diligence legislation to hold companies to account - until then we will many similar stories continuing to emerge.' https://lnkd.in/eYDtK7dm
