This weekend marked the end of an important chapter with my graduation from the Executive Master in Finance at HEC Paris. During the ceremony, Éloïc Peyrache gave an inspiring speech about the responsibility we owe to ourselves and to the world, at a time when “technology moves faster than wisdom, where information is everywhere but trust is disappearing.” He challenged us to “Dare the Impossible.” Valérie Baudson shared her personal recipe and encouraged us to find « our own signature dish ». In her pot: relentless curiosity, quality of judgment over speed of execution, diversity as a genuine source of surprise (rather than a box to tick) and the ability to see in people what others do not yet see. Her secret ingredient: Optimism. Both messages resonated deeply with me. As for my own signature dish, I used to think it was my ability to navigate complexity through analytical rigor. I now believe it is something simpler: SERENITY. A serenity grounded in curiosity, rigorous thinking and the confidence that comes from knowing WHEN and HOW to use the right tools, data and methods to navigate uncertainty and create value, with the conviction that the most robust decisions come from seeing the world as a system rather than as a collection of isolated problems. This conviction was continuously reinforced by the outstanding professors and practitioners we learned from throughout these 2 years, but also by an exceptional group of classmates whose experiences, perspectives and ambitions made the journey far richer than I could have imagined. So, tell us, what are your secret ingredients? Axel Lamiral Andrea I.
