A few (potentially) mildly interesting observations from my first work trip back to San Francisco in almost 3 years: - The tech ads that were plastered all over SF Bart stations, and the tech billboards that were all along the 101 are mostly gone. - There are just less people everywhere. Restaurants, shops, offices, and just walking around... maybe this is how it’s been since covid brought about WFH? Somehow there is still plenty of traffic though! - No more companies bragging about rapid scaling… ‘balancing growth with operating costs’ seems to be the new IT executive mantra. - The 2 main tech bro uniforms (Patagonia jacket/ vest or sports coat with jeans) are still very much alive and well! 😂 - This e-scooter thing seems like a bust. I saw tons of them locked up on the street, but few riders. - And lastly, the headlines about SF becoming a dystopian wasteland are greatly exaggerated - It actually seemed cleaner than I remembered (in full disclosure, i didn’t visit the Tenderloin). Back again soon!!
