On June 24, 1926, a company was founded in Kurashiki, Japan, with one goal: to commercialise synthetic rayon. Today, Kuraray turns 100. 🎉 A lot has changed since that first step. What started as a single fibre technology grew into a global specialty chemicals company with over 12,000 employees across 32 countries, delivering high-performance materials for everything from automotive and architecture to food packaging and healthcare. The path forward hasn’t always been obvious. But decades of firsts, reinventions, and persistence kept opening up new ones. 🌍 This journey brought Kuraray to Europe over 60 years ago and led to the founding of Kuraray Europe GmbH in 1991. What began as a branch office of a Japanese parent company has grown into one of Europe’s leading suppliers of specialty chemicals, with a team of over 1,000 employees across the continent. But what's defined Kuraray for 100 years goes beyond the materials themselves. Our founder Magosaburo Ohara believed that wealth gained from society should be returned to society. That principle still runs through everything we do – from our community programmes and sustainability commitments to the way we develop materials that quietly make everyday life work better.
