With great pride, I share our latest article in Nature - Scientific Reports: “AI-Derived CT Biomarker Score for Robust COVID-19 Mortality Prediction Across Multiple Waves and Regions Using Machine Learning” 👉 https://lnkd.in/e_WJ7Xek This work reflects the power of integrated diagnostics—merging radiology and laboratory medicine into clinically actionable insights. It also showcases the impact of AI and interpretable machine learning in healthcare, built on solid collaboration between clinicians and engineers. The RADar Innovation Center and the “Engineer Meets Physician” (EMP) philosophy were central to this effort. A heartfelt thank you to all co-authors and collaborators at UZ Brussel, AZ Delta, and beyond. The synergy between academic and non-academic centers proved essential. For me, this paper also marks the final publication of my PhD trajectory—a scientific and personal journey shaped by COVID-19, multidisciplinary teamwork, and the evolving role of the radiologist. From diagnostic speedboat to systems thinker, this work is both an end and a beginning. #AIinHealthcare #Radiology #LaboratoryMedicine #IntegratedDiagnostics #PhD #MachineLearning #COVID19 #RADar #UZBrussel #AZDelta #ScientificReports #EngineerMeetsPhysician #MedicalInnovation Geert Martens AZ Delta RADar Learning & innovation Centre AZ Delta Vrije Universiteit Brussel UZ Brussel Peter De Jaeger Dieter De Smet, MD, MSc Nico Buls, PhD Dirk Smeets icometrix
