This is a post that at least we in India, shouldn’t ideally feel as new or unique or great … as this is the norm in our culture. Yet sharing as a reinforcement and reminder to all those who run spaces like Shrimath Yoga 🧘♂️ Matru Devo Bhava 🙏🏼 Adi Sankara promised His mother that whenever she needs, He would be present. To honor the mothers, He wrote Matruka Panchakam. When the final rites are done to her, the Shraddha Mantras are explicit in explaining what she did to us 🥹 Whenever we were in need, she served us, and when we didn’t even know what we needed, she continued / continues to be for us. This is right from conception to at least 3 years then till we really found our feet (🫣 wait… have we found our feet 👣🥹). Even after that, till now, we run to her, and many times she needs no reason or explanation to comfort us. Karma Siddhanta says that we choose our parents, yet due to ignorance, many of us, question her as to why did she give birth to us. For a lot of us born in 1960s and 1970s, it’s through her we could reach our father. In many Indian homes, the father didn’t know which standard their kids study 📚 The system of worship in Sri Vaishnava temples is to share our pleasure and pain with the Thaayaar ie the mother - form of Lakshmi 🪷 She communicated to Him at appropriate time with Her recommendation 🪷 Thus, at Shrimath, since inception we always welcome mothers of our participants, to stay with their children during the course. Blessed to host Anu Venugopal’s Amma. Through her prayers, blessings and wishes not just Shrimath but all the participants would grow 🌱 We speak of discipline, presence, spiritual routine, faith, equanimity, then invest time as well as money to cultivate these. But these old Dharmic giants teach us quietly without undergoing any course but by their mere lived experience. Dedicating this post to all our mothers - our first Goddess and best Teacher 🧘♂️ It’s upto us to tap their grace and learn the lessons. Jai ma 🙏🏼
