📢 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀: China's New Eco-Environment Code Takes Effect 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟱, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲. For chemical exporters to China, the compliance landscape has changed dramatically. On March 12, 2026, China adopted its first-ever Eco-Environment Code, only the second codified law after the Civil Code. Taking effect on August 15, 2026, the Code will simultaneously repeal 10 existing eco-environmental laws and establish a comprehensive framework covering pollution prevention, ecological protection, green and low-carbon development, and legal liability. If you export chemicals, intermediates, or formulated products to China, the Code directly impacts your market access. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: 🔹 New chemical substance registration is now a statutory legal obligation, not merely an administrative requirement 🔹 Production or import of substances not listed in the IECSC requires registration before production or import 🔹 Authorities may regularly collect and disclose information on chemical properties, quantities, uses, hazards, and environmental emissions 🔹 A dynamic Key Controlled New Pollutants List introduces additional restrictions on high-risk substances, including POPs 🔹 Lifecycle management requirements now apply across production, import, storage, transport, sale, use, and disposal To maintain uninterrupted access to the Chinese market, companies should immediately review their substance inventories, assess IECSC status, prepare registration dossiers where required, and strengthen supply chain traceability systems.
