Today, we marked the start of construction of the Netherlands' first facility fully dedicated to alternative aviation fuel (SAF). 🌱✈️ In Delfzijl, together with @SkyNRG and our partners, we officially broke ground on DSL-01: a plant that will produce its first SAF volumes from 2028. As a co-founder of SkyNRG back in 2009, this milestone feels personal. We've committed to purchasing at least 75,000 tons annually, 75% of the plant's total output, a sustainability commitment of nearly €3 billion. 💙   As the first airline in the world to provide a long-term offtake guarantee at this scale, KLM is directly contributing to the financing and realization of this facility. Today’s groundbreaking together with SkyNRG and our partners makes this project truly tangible. We’re proud that KLM, as co-founder of SkyNRG and the largest buyer of the fuel, is taking an important step in scaling up SAF production in the Netherlands and advancing the sustainability of aviation.   SAF reduces lifecycle CO₂ emissions, from production to combustion, by at least 65% compared to conventional kerosene, and up to more than 90%.   Here’s to many more milestones like this one. 🎉   Photos by: SkyNRG
