KLM Cityhopper flew from Amsterdam to Hamburg using a blend of 5% synthetic kerosene (e-SAF): the first passenger flight to Germany on this fuel type. Produced from renewable electricity, CO₂, and water, e-SAF has the potential to reduce lifecycle emissions by more than 90% compared to conventional kerosene. This milestone would not have been possible without our partners: INERATEC, who produced the e-SAF, MB Energy, who handled the blending, and Hamburg Airport, who embraced the initiative with full commitment. But we'll be honest: the road to scale is steep. E-SAF is currently four times more expensive than conventional SAF and availability still falls far short of Europe's 2030 ambitions. The gap between aspiration and reality is real. That's exactly why collaboration matters more than ever. Governments, industry partners, and the wider aviation community: we need all of you to turn today's showcase into tomorrow's standard. The future of aviation is built on the choices we make today.💙 Photos: Arnoud Raeven #KLM #eSAF #Sustainability
