"Tivoli Gardens" (a tribute to Lenny Tristano) Lennie Tristano (1919-1978) was an American jazz pianist, composer, and highly influential teacher, known for his pioneering work in cool jazz and for being one of the earliest figures in free jazz. Blind from childhood, Tristano developed a distinctive style characterized by intricate counterpoint, advanced harmonic concepts, and a disciplined approach to improvisation. His 1949 recordings "Intuition" and "Digression" are considered the first free group improvisations, predating similar experiments by nearly a decade, and he was also an early adopter of multitrack recording techniques in jazz. Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen boasts a rich and enduring tradition of jazz concerts, making it a prominent hub for jazz enthusiasts in Denmark. This tradition is deeply intertwined with the vibrant jazz scene that flourished in Copenhagen, particularly from the 1960s onwards.
