AES is everywhere in embedded systems. But the most critical engineering decision is often not AES itself, it is AES mode. Industrial gateways. FPGA pipelines. Secure boot. Automotive Ethernet. IoT. A wrong mode choice can turn a secure system into an insecure one. The mode changes how a system behaves in practice: • Can encryption run in parallel on FPGA pipelines? • Is integrity protection included? • What happens if packets are reordered or lost? • How dangerous is nonce reuse? • Does the design fit into constrained hardware? This article explains the most important AES modes used in embedded systems today and where they are typically applied in practice. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/epaDhJrS
