HECTOR School of Engineering & Management Master Thesis Talk "EU Aviation Decarbonization: From Engineering to System-Level Impacts": Hongfeng Gao’s (PhD, M.Sc. in Energy Engineering and Management) master’s thesis addressed lubrication and cooling challenges in turbofan engine gear systems, particularly in geared architectures developed for higher efficiency. This research laid the foundation for his continued work in aviation. After graduating from #KITKarlsruhe, he moved into system‑level aviation research. His current PhD at Technische Universität Braunschweig builds directly on the findings of his thesis, further developing its concepts and methodology, and he will now present the latest status of this work. The research investigates aviation decarbonisation and its market impacts, with a particular focus on how EU climate policies interact with passenger choice and may create unintended competitive distortions in the aviation market. Further, this Master Thesis Talk also shows the academic path from Master Thesis to a PhD. The presentation will be followed by an interactive Q&A session, giving you the opportunity to engage directly with the speaker.
