Construction is moving forward on the High-Fidelity Training and Operations Center at the Savannah River Site in South Carolina. Kiewit is supporting Savannah River Nuclear Solutions as a subcontractor, helping transform the existing 103,000-square-foot facility into a specialized, non-nuclear training environment to provide personnel with hands-on experience with simulated radiological controls. Our scope includes facility modifications and the installation of critical systems such as ventilation, utility systems, classrooms, labs, office space and electrical systems. It also includes pre-commissioning of a high-fidelity production line, a material characterization system lab, a receipt inspection lab and a salt processing line. By applying commercial construction practices and teaming with stakeholders, the team is helping advance the project with a focus on efficiency and execution. Kiewit has helped shorten the schedule and reduce the budget. This work reflects Kiewit’s experience supporting complex nuclear infrastructure and evolving project delivery approaches.
