The 3rd Kiel–Göttingen–CEPR Conference on China in the Global Economy is well underway in Berlin. The conference opened with a keynote by Chang-Tai Hsieh (The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, CEPR and NBER), followed by a special live edition of Global China Conversations on "China Shock 2.0: How Can the German Automotive Industry Respond?" Many thanks to our panelists Manuel Kallweit (German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) Industry – VDA), Karoline Rogge (University of Sussex Business School & Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI) and Sander Tordoir (Centre for European Reform & CEPR) The discussion brought together perspectives from academia, industry, and policy on Europe's response to an evolving global competitive landscape, focusing on innovation and competition. The conference has now moved into its academic sessions, with more serious and thought-provoking presentations and discussion - interrupted only occasionally by brief updates and side remarks on the football. A reminder that even at an economics conference, some topics are impossible to ignore.
