Looking forward to the start of our LSE-Kiel-CEPR Conference on Defence Economics in London tomorrow! At a time when Europe’s security landscape is rapidly evolving, this event brings together researchers to explore some of the most pressing and still underexplored questions in defence and military economics. From deterrence and arms production to alliances, fiscal capacity, and the macroeconomic implications of war, the discussions ahead promise to be both timely and thought-provoking. We are especially excited to hear from our keynote speakers, Valerie Ramey (Hoover Institution, Stanford and CEPR) and Noam Yuchtman (LSE and CEPR), alongside a fantastic lineup of speakers including Paolo Surico, Daniel P. Gross, Kyle Greenberg, Hugo Reichardt, Effi Benmelech, Alexey Makarin, Edouard Challe, Dr. Helen Zeidler, Rustam Jamilov, Roxana Mihet, Mindy Zhang Xiaolan, Adrian Peralta-Alva, and Edoardo Briganti presenting cutting-edge research across a wide range of topics in defence, war, and conflict economics. Thanks to LSE president Larry Kramer for opening the conference. Organizers are Ethan Ilzetzki & Christoph Trebesch! The conference aims to foster high-level academic exchange, encourage collaboration, and help shape the future research agenda in this field.
