Once BD becomes mainstream and is no longer “𝐮𝐧𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠” 𝐨𝐫 “𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐲” in the legal industry, don’t be shocked when interviews sound like this: Who do you know? What networks are you part of? What can you bring to the table? You smart? Great. But can you sell? 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐮𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞, 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬. Sell yourself. Sell your services. Sell your Firm. It’s a skill that can be trained, not just some talent that bosses are born with. And honestly? Do us a favour. The slower you start, the less competition we will have.
