𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. The Nazis' influence in Germany is a chilling example. An entire generation was taught to see Jews, Roma, disabled people, and others as subhuman. During the Cold War, Americans were raised to believe that communism/socialism was evil. In Malaysia, generations grew up believing that BN equalled stability, prosperity, and national identity. All of this through a simple, powerful concept: indoctrination. We all start blank. Like a white sheet of paper, with no ideology. But over time, ideas are written on us. Beliefs planted. Perspectives shaped. We are taught what to fear, what to revere, what to accept, and what never to question. Last weekend I found myself doing the same. If you recalled two months ago, I called for law students to sign up for a business development "rev-up".   https://lnkd.in/d_aExCCC . A type of training designed to challenge traditional ways of thinking in the legal profession. I only meant to choose 10 participants. I ended up taking 30. And whether or not I’ve successfully indoctrinated them into seeing business development as not just a useful skill, but a new norm in legal practice …... remains to be seen. 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧: 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞: 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐦 𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬, 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐞𝐭𝐜. I hope they will challenge the status quo. And maybe, just maybe…they’ll teach others to question the old ways too.
