The Legend of Zelda turns 40 tomorrow! 🎉 Link is officially a Millennial. He aged exceptionally well and has been one of the industry’s most enduring influencers since 1986. Zelda did open-world exploration before it even had a name. It trusted players to figure things out long before playthroughs and "just Google it" were a thing. A lot of modern game design mechanics trace back to a kid, a sword, and zero instructions. In 2026, open worlds will be built by hundreds of developers across disciplines, studios, and time zones. But the core question remains the same: How much do we explain and how much do we let players discover? As a side effect, Zelda also taught an entire generation to burn every bush. Just in case. This is a nod to Shigeru Miyamoto, Takashi Tezuka, and the entire Nintendo team. Thank you for introducing the world to one of the most beloved franchises of all time and for delivering an amazing masterclass in long-term IP building. 💙 Swipe through. Leave a comment if you dare. It’s fine. We’re all suddenly feeling old-ish. Happy 40th, Zelda/Link 🎉
