#Feature05 of modern physical access management software: Approval Workflows and Segregation of Duties. “Can you just give me access for today?” In many organisations, physical access requests still happen through quick calls, messages or informal emails. It may feel efficient in the moment, but it creates a problem later: no clear record, no consistent approval process and no easy way to explain why access was granted. For critical sites, technical facilities or operational assets, access decisions need ownership. A proper approval workflow makes the process traceable from the start: who requested access, who approved it, why it was needed and how long it should last. It also supports segregation of duties. The person requesting access should not be able to approve that same access without proper control. That is not just an administrative detail. It is part of a stronger governance model. Fast access is important, especially when operations need to keep moving. But speed should not come at the cost of accountability.
