It’s not everyday you get a visit from the President of Timor-Leste, His Excellency Dr. José Ramos-Horta. Obrigadu barak for visiting us at The NT News. In Presidential Ramos-Horta’s own words, “It all began at the NT News”. President Ramos-Horta was nearly exiled for calling for Timorese independence in the early 1970s in an interview with NT News journalist Ken White. “The article reached Lisbon and I was in big trouble,” he told us. President Ramos-Horta was only saved from exhile by the Carnation Revolution, which also kicked off Timor's brutal quarter-century of occupation by Indonesia. President Ramos-Horta shares a deep and genuine relationship with the Territory and it was truly an honour to have you here again.
