Fauvism: A Colorful Rebellion in Modern Western Art Fauvism is one of the underrated and underrecognized movements in the history of modern western art. Artists like Henri Matisse, André Derain, Maurice de Vlaminck, Georges Braque, etc. emancipated "color" from its predetermined, traditional role. Due to their efforts, color gained a new identity in the compositions. Though short-lived, Fauvism gave way to facilitate emotional expression through unconventional use of color in compositions.
