Creating the Energy of Tomorrow | #makeitcount | views are my own

🎉 Celebrating 25 years 🎉 Many people have asked me over the years why I have been working in just ONE company? Is it not getting boring? Can you still learn and grow? And the answer is quite simple: after 25 years working for Siemens and Siemens Energy companies it feels like I am just getting started. Why? Because when you found a place where you can become the best version of yourself, where you belong, where you can turn your purpose into impact for a sustainable world – then it is not about leaving after 5 years to try something new. But it is about sticking to it. Even, and especially when the going gets tough. A few reflections ✔️ The success of the company is not made in the board room. It is carried by your people, every single day: in customer meetings, on the shop floor, on project sites, in the repair shop, in the backoffice. No matter if it is large corporate or a startup. ✔️ Train for skill, hire for attitude. Always. Nothing beats that ‘can do’ attitude combined with a growth mindset. And yes, in the beginning it is tough. Because everyone needs to learn, needs to storm. The outcome of supporting your team through this steep learning curve is pure magic and I am grateful for every single team member that brought that magic into the rooms we were in. Keep it and spread it abundantly. You know who you are! ✔️ Turning complexity into strength. I cannot count how many times I heard that corporates are slow, lack agility and struggle to collaborate effectively with startups. And probably all of this is true to some extent. But, if given the opportunity, take the chance to rewrite the rules. Corporates like Siemens Energy are full of highly innovative people, deep expertise and an execution power that delivers large scale projects reliably and repeatedly. Once you realize these strengths, conversations shift from ‘if we could’ to ‘how can we’ which opens up a totally different solution space and impact potential. Go there and keep at it. ✔️ Learning how to learn. Changing professions every few years forced me to unlearn the old, build on transferable skills and learn the new. It has been a bit scary and painful every single time. And I have learned every single time that everything is possible if you put your mind to it and people into the center. That people with more experience help you get up the learning curve quickly. And that sometimes the best answer to a question is: I don’t know. But let’s find out together. So, 25 years in just 'one' company has been a journey of learning, leading, and evolving and looking back I would not change one single bit. I am especially grateful for working with so many exceptional colleagues around the world who inspire, support and challenge me – and for the leaders that gave me opportunities to grow, learn from mistakes and that always had my back Jörg Markard Torben Bang Richard Luijendijk, Markus Seibold Vinod Philip Kathleen O'Brien Maria Ferraro #makeitcount #teampurple
