Toronto is confronting another devastating wave of gun violence after two separate shootings left three people dead and several others injured. On Friday night, Toronto Police responded to a triple shooting near Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West in North York. Three men in their 20s were found suffering from gunshot wounds. Police have identified the man who died as 22-year-old Abdihamiim Aden. Two other victims survived and remain in hospital with serious but stable injuries. Investigators believe the shooting was targeted and are searching for three masked male suspects dressed in black, who reportedly fled in a stolen black Honda Civic. The suspected vehicle was later found burning in Brampton. In a separate incident near Toronto’s Salsa on St. Clair festival, two men were killed and several others were seriously injured after gunfire erupted near the event. Police described the investigation as complex and urged witnesses or anyone with video footage to come forward. Two different locations. Three people dead. Several others injured. More families now forced to live with grief and trauma. At some point, Toronto has to move beyond reacting after lives have already been lost. Enforcement matters. Accountability matters. But so do prevention, mentorship, mental-health support, employment opportunities and meaningful investment in communities before violence happens. This cannot become normal.
