For viewers in the UK, a Sunday reflection. As the latest surge in racism spikes in Britain... the silence of many school leaders and educators is a worry for societal harmony and cohesiveness. ■ Silence is complicity as it allows oppression to continue unchallenged. ● Where is the solidarity for antiracism and justice now in the teaching profession especially with school leaders? ■ Blair Peach 1979. Aged 33. When a teacher from New Zealand, working in a school in East London, went to support anti-racist protests and paid the ultimate price... 10,000 people joined a funeral procession from his East London school. ■ "Hundreds of teachers paid their respects after the Inner London Education Authority allowed one teacher from every school paid leave to attend the funeral..." And they sang "And the last fight let us face... unites the human race" We owe a lot and stand on the shoulders of many predecessors who lay down their lives so we may seek a worthy future.
