As a fan of stories and history, I frequently reflect on the intersection of my academic studies and my work in the nonprofit sector. I have come to a surprising conclusion: New Jersey may be America's most underrated state for nonprofits. We might be known for our diners, tomatoes, and the debate over whether it’s Taylor Ham or pork roll, but we are also home to thousands of organizations that are making a difference. These nonprofits are tackling hunger, protecting open spaces, supporting the arts, strengthening communities, and helping neighbors in need. New Jersey has always been a state of joiners, builders, and problem-solvers. History teaches us that communities don’t improve by accident. It starts with one person showing up, then another joins them, and eventually, a nonprofit is born. #jersey #taylorham #nonprofits #jerseydiners
