Can’t believe it’s Friday again already! My week has been somewhat knocked off course by the arrival of this gorgeous (but very demanding!) little fella, but I’ve still had plenty of time for some very interesting D&I related conversations. This week’s #hottesttopics in Diversity and Inclusion for me have been very community related: 🍾Choosing the winner of the Jersey Evening Post’s #PrideofJerseyAwards2021 Diversity and Inclusion Champion category. It has been a real privilege for The Diversity Network to again sponsor this category with HSBC, represented by Steven Beddow. The three finalists - Abigail Atkinson, Gary Burgess and Beresford Street Kitchen have all done so much to promote and encourage diversity and inclusion in the local community and are each an inspiration to us all. It was a tough call choosing a winner from the three and I can’t wait to celebrate with all of them at the Awards ceremony in a few weeks’ time. 🚸At the judging lunch I was fortunate to have a very interesting and eye opening conversation with Jersey’s Children’s Commissioner, Deborah McMillan. Her office are soon to publish some research around youth crime that it is hoped will facilitate a constructive community discussion around the solutions and best way to help young people. They are our future afterall and age discrimination and bias can be a very real issue for many children - especially those who may get caught up in the youth justice system. Deborah’s article in this week’s JEP is really worth a read: https://lnkd.in/e4BBAiuH Happy weekend all! Mine’s going to be a busy one….🐾 #everydayheroes #inclusivecommunity #agediscrimination #youthcrime #solutions #ourfuture #rocco❤️
