What do we reveal when we describe ourselves only by our job title? Mr H and I watched Anger Management on Saturday night, and one small scene stayed with me. When Dave Buznik is asked to describe himself, he begins with his work. “No, Dave. Not your job.” He tries again with his personality. “No, Dave. Not your personality.” It made me think about the stories we tell about ourselves professionally, particularly on LinkedIn. A profile does need to make clear what you do. But the most memorable ones also give people a sense of what it might be like to work with you, what has shaped you, and what matters to you. This week’s reflections are about identity, visibility and the space between performance and privacy.
