The most underrated leadership skill, in my opinion? Self-awareness. Not confidence. Not decisiveness. Not even experience. The leaders who grow the most — and help others grow — are the ones who regularly pause and ask: How is this landing? What might I need to adjust? How can I do better? But self-awareness doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It’s strengthened when leaders create cultures of trust and transparency on their teams – environments where people feel safe offering honest feedback. Some of the most valuable insights I received didn’t come from self-reflection alone… they came directly from my team. Growth doesn’t come from being flawless.
