Prioritising sustainability is often a challenging job, and we LOVE to do it 💚 Throughout the ongoing construction process of Te Ara Whetū, our new library hub in Waikanae, sustainability has been woven into our building framework from the ground-up. From the architectural design process to the consideration of which materials we use, we're working closely with our building contractor Naylor Love and Otaihanga Zero Waste to ensure we divert as much waste as possible away from landfill. During the demolition phase of the old building, a whopping 94% of waste was diverted from landfill – a huge win for our local taiao! Over the course of the current construction phase, we're also pushing to keep at least 75% of waste out of landfill. Many hands make light work, and the building team on-site are meticulously separating waste into clearly defined streams, including timber, steel and scrap metal, PVC, and even some traditionally hard-to-recycle materials to ensure that these resources can have a second life elsewhere. Te Ara Whetū is an example of what’s possible when sustainability is built in from the start, and we're excited for it to create a lasting impact for our community when it opens later in the year. Keep up to date with everything happening with the Te Ara Whetū build 👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/eQHhhbMS
