Last night, we reached a significant milestone for our district's economic development with the signing of the Kāpiti NZ Trust Deed. This new model focuses on resilience, delivering better returns for Kāpiti and supporting stronger economic outcomes in the long run by reducing Council’s reliance on ratepayer funding. Now it has been formally settled, Kāpiti NZ will establish a Limited Liability Company (LLC), which will have the ability to attract investment and undertake opportunities that we are unable to do on our own. This includes co-investing in projects with businesses, research groups, property developers, Māori landowners and central government. Accountability will be agreed through governance and relationship arrangements with Council, including how funding provided will be used in the community. We acknowledge the hard work of Economic Development Kotahitanga Board Chair Neil MacKay and members who have, for the past six years, provided leadership and strategic direction, and partnered with the local business community to drive our district forward.
