Some places on the coast hold more than just land – they hold history, ecology, and stories worth protecting 💚 that’s where our Heritage Fund comes in, supporting landowners with heritage features on their property to care for and protect these taonga. The Heritage Fund provides matched funding to help landowners care for historic buildings, ecological and geological sites, significant trees, and wāhi tapu. Applications are now open and close 13 July 👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/e7xh_uMX and must fall into one of four categories: 🌿 Preservation (either physically or by covenant) 🌿 Riparian management 🌿 Heritage feature management (like planting or pest control) 🌿 Research or education projects that help tell Kāpiti Coast’s heritage stories. The fund supports projects protecting ecological, geological, historical, and cultural sites across Kāpiti. One neat example is the Kotukutuku Restoration Project in Paraparaumu, where predator control and forest restoration has led to the translocation of 51 titipounamu/rifleman to the Kāpiti Coast. A milestone for native bird recovery in our region. We're all about backing local legends and their mahi that protects these special places for generations to come 💚
